Common Questions

What is Physical Therapy?

Physical therapy examines and treats musculoskeletal injuries to improve function on performance. We prescribe exercises tailored to strengthen or lengthen muscles or stabilize a particular set of joints. In some cases we perform manual therapy to improve joint mobility, muscle extensibility and/or decrease pain. In other cases we use modalities such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, traction, or ice/heat to decrease pain.

Why Physical Therapy?

Physical therapists are experts in improving mobility and strength that is crucial to your quality of life, your ability to work, your ability to pursue your favorite activities, and so much more.

Will Physical Therapy Hurt?

Most patients are in physical therapy because they have pain and their goal is to alleviate it. Occasionally stretching, strengthening, and manual therapy can cause discomfort. We ask that you either call, email or tell your PT of any significant changes in your pain. 

What should I bring with me to my first appointment?

Please bring any records from your previous doctor, a list of your medications and/or allergies and a list of prior doctors. We also recommend bringing in a list of any questions or concerns you may have. Please make sure you arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment so you can provide us the necessary paperwork and insurance information to put you in our system. To save time, you can also print the Intake Forms located on our forms page, and bring them completed to your appointment.

What should I wear?

We recommend you wear loose comfortable clothing. Women with neck or shoulder issues may want to wear a tank top or sports bra. We also have clean treatment gowns and tank tops available to use. If we are treating a leg or low back injury, we recommend you bring a pair of shorts or loose fitting exercise pants. 

How long does each visit take?

Every patient is scheduled a 60 minute block of time regardless of insurance type or injury. You will never be double booked with another patient.  

How long will I need physical therapy?

You will need to attend physical therapy sessions until you and your therapist decide that you have reached your desired level of function or that further therapy would not be beneficial. Often therapy will also be monitored by your physician.

When should I start seeing improvement?

Again that depends on the same factors associated with how long treatment will take. We make a treatment plan for you that includes follow up and regular maintenance visits to our physical rehab clinic. If at any point you feel like you are not progressing at a satisfactory rate, we will collaborate with you and modify your treatment plan. We will always keep you informed as well about your progress.

If I don't have insurance can I still receive Physical Therapy?

Yes, we offer discounts for cash payments. We also accept Visa and Mastercard. We can also offer a monthly payment plan. We will not charge interest unless your account is past due.

Will you keep in contact with my doctor?

After your initial evaluation we will send a copy of the examination to your doctor along with progress notes at regular intervals.

Who will I see?

We will make every attempt to schedule you with the therapist you desire to see. However, there may be times when another physical therapist will treat you to accommodate your schedule. All of our physical therapists are fully-licensed and enjoy delivering high-quality care. Each physical therapist has pursued education beyond graduate level physical therapy schooling and is a current member of the American Physical Therapy Association. Additionally, we will never pass our care over to an aide, assistant, or technician. 

Will my insurance pay for therapy?

Generally, most insurance companies pay for physical therapy. Some companies only offer limited coverage or require a co-pay or co-insurance after your deductible has been met for the year. We recommend that you call the benefit number listed on your insurance card to check on your insurance benefits before you start therapy. If you have difficulty with this we can assist you by providing your insurance information first. Do you accept Medicare patients?

Absolutely! We welcome patients with plan B Medicare coverage. We have to jump through a few more "paperwork hoops" to treat patients with Medicare but we're used to it and happy to do so. The rules are tricky visit Medicare's page what you are entitled to and what is covered. It can be difficult to understand we can walk you through it if you like. 

Do I need a physician's referral for physical therapy?

Most insurance companies will require that you get a physician's referral for physical therapy, which you need to bring on your first appointment. Medicare patients are required to be seen by the physician before starting physical therapy. Feel free to print out our prescription to bring to your doctor's office.

Can I download and complete the necessary forms prior to my appointment?

Yes. You can save time by downloading the new patient forms and bringing them with you to your appointment.
